The Jazz Department and the MuTri Doctoral School of the Sibelius Academy, University of Arts Helsinki invites
· jazz voice artistic researchers at the doctoral and post-doctoral levels
· jazz voice educators
· jazz voice performers
to take part in the first International Jazz Voice Conference.
The International Jazz Voice Conference in Helsinki is the first event of its type, organized for jazz singers by jazz singers. The first edition of the IJVC comes from the acute need for international specialists in the field to connect and interact. IJVC aims to raise awareness of the importance and significance of jazz singing among vocalists, musicians and the general public. IJVC is also a platform for connecting professionals.

MICHELE WEIR
arranger, jazz pedagogue, singer and pianist (USA)
The conference will focus on artistry, education and research in the field of vocal jazz. The activities of the conference include lectures, presentations, workshops, panel discussions and concerts - all related to jazz voice. IJVC is envisioned to become an annual event.
Presentation formats:
· Lecture / presentation, 20 min (+5 min discussion)
· Lecture concert, 40 min (+10 min discussion) *
· Workshop, 40 min (+10 min discussion) *
* An accompanying house-band can be provided upon request
Deadline for proposals: April 15, 2015
We welcome proposals on the following topics: vocal jazz improvisation, sound qualities and jazz voice technique, interpretation, traditional vocal jazz, history of vocal jazz, stylistic directions of vocal jazz, instrumentalists versus singers, vocal jazz pedagogy, vocal jazz research, and vocal jazz in different countries/cultures. Proposals on other topics related to jazz singing may also be considered, so please send your abstract and topic.
The language of the conference and all presentations is English.

Proposals will be peer-reviewed anonymously by a board of jazz professionals. All applicants will be notified regarding their acceptance via e-mail by May 15, 2015.
The final schedule of the conference will be announced by May 25, 2015.

Registration fees:
· 100€ - presenters (including lunch and afternoon coffee with snacks for all 3 days)
· 160€ - guest (including lunch and afternoon coffee with snacks for all 3 days)
· 130€ - guest (without lunch and coffee)
· 70€ - guest - student price (without lunch and coffee)
Registration for all participants, including those not presenting in the conference, will be open until September 15, 2015. Early registration is strongly recommended. Participants will be expected to cover travel and accommodation expenses. We can help by offering a letter of recommendation in support of funding applications to any person who intends to participate in IJVC. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
