CZB: What is your earliest musical memory?

Scarlett Etienne: Dancing to David Bowie singing Dance Magic Dance on the Jim Henson film, Labyrinth. He was my first crush.

CZB: What kind of bike do you own? How long have you been riding and what is your most memorable bike trip?

Scarlett Etienne: I have a little 50cc Vespa Piaggio. I don't ever go far as I just ride it to get around London. I love riding along the embankment and going to the Tate Modern and Borough Market when it's sunny.

CZB: On Facebook, you say your personal interest is “Making noise”. Starting from balet and piano lessons moving on to Punk Rock and Hip Hop, how did you get the passion for Electronic Music?

Scarlett Etienne: My love for bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, and Eurythmics introduced me to synthesizers and electronic music. My father was into really strange electronic music as well, like Ray Lynch. You should look it up, it's pretty far out. That was my first proper 'electronic' album. My second was Depeche Mode, Violator.

CZB: What is probably the hardest part of staying on top and going on once you've made a name for yourself as a DJ?

Scarlett Etienne: The long hours spent in airports definitely are the most tedious, and the lack of sleep on busy weekends when you've got three gigs in a row.

CZB: Half-Philipine, Half-German, born in Hong Kong, growing up in Canada and New York City ... how does your diverse background reflect in the music and rhythms you promote?

Scarlett Etienne: Let me correct you, I didn't grow up in Canada, I only lived there for one year. Having a diverse background and having done so much traveling, I've learned how to have an open mind about music. Everywhere I've lived, I've picked up different musical jewels in the form of mixtapes from friends or cool local radio stations which have introduced me to new artists.

CZB: You've had residencies and had the chance to travel through your DJ sets to different corners of the world, such as San Francisco, Bombay, Athens, London ... what do you consider that all people have in common, considering the different backgrounds and lifestyles?

Scarlett Etienne: Everyone just wants to have fun. Bottom line.

CZB: What is your 2011 New Year's Resolution?

Scarlett Etienne: To become an Icon.
