DJ Frederico Molinari (ARG) Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, house music DJ Frederico Molinari is presently an inhabitant of Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Billed with the likes of Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos and Steve Bug, Frederico Molinari is a Time Warp resident in Mannheim and is currently an events organizer at the respected Robert Johnson in Offenbach. As a producer, he works through his own label, Oslo Records (founded with Nekes in 2007), promoting others as well.

CZB: Are your ancestors from Italy and when did the Molinaris first come to Argentina?

Frederico Molinari: My ancestors came from Italy, Russia and Austria. I have a big mixture in my blood. The first Molinari arrived in Argentina in 1885.

CZB: Do you consider it historically correct that The Malvinas belong to Argentina?

Frederico Molinari: Las Islas Malvinas are 13.000 km. away – far away from the UK, why it should belong to England? They just stole a piece of our territory.

CZB: Why did you move away from Argentina?

Frederico Molinari: I wanted to travel basically. 21 years in Argentina was enough for me I guess.

CZB: How did you get to Germany? Why Germany?

Frederico Molinari: The first time I came to Germany it was by bus (coming fom London). Basically I arrived in Germany randomly. I was spending Holidays in India and I met some German people that took me to Germany; once here I realized that I would like to live in this country.

CZB: Is there anything you miss about Argentina / how often do you go back to visit old friends or relatives?

Frederico Molinari: I miss a lot of things, really a lot, for example the food. But this is the price you have to pay if you live in another country. I go to Argentina once every year.

CZB: When did you discover your passion for music and have you learned to play a musical instrument before becoming a computer freak?

Frederico Molinari: I think my passion for music started very early, maybe when I was 6 or 7 years old. I learned some instruments for a few months like guitar, drums, flute; but then I started playing bass and I decided to do it properly, so I was taking lessons for some years. I am not a computer freak at all!

CZB: What musical genres did you listen to while growing up and how did you discover electronic beats?

Frederico Molinari: When I was a teenager I was listening a lot of bands (hardcore, punk, trash, etc.) and a lot of Jazz, Bossanova and Tango; basically I was listening almost every kind of music. My first connection with electronic music was Kraftwerk and ambient music (with some bands like Tangerine Dreams, etc); then I started listening some disco House, and finally I started with real House. The rest was the normal process (House, Techno, Trance, Minimal, etc)

CZB: What artist or musical project do you consider most important for the evolution of House music and who is your musical icon?

Frederico Molinari: I think that the US was very important for the evolution of House music, there´s many many artists from all over the country; Derrick Carter is a big musical Icon for me.

CZB: In what direction do you see House music or electronic beats going during the next decade?

Frederico Molinari: For sure! I don´t know in which direction everything will turn; but for sure the electronic beats will not die because now you listen to electronic beats in every kind of music, from ethnic to Tango.

CZB: Why did you name your label Oslo Records … is it about a cold keyboard feeling or an exotic adventure into the opposite hemisphere from that in which you grew up in?

Frederico Molinari: That´s the million dollar question!!! Sorry but the answer is a big secret.

CZB: Where do you ultimately want your music to take you and how much longer do you see yourself doing the DJ circuit?

Frederico Molinari: I try don´t to expect so much from the music, so I don´t speculate with the future; I hope I can play much much longer… we will see what happens

CZB: Is this your first time in Romania / and how would you compare Eastern Europe audiences to those you are used to in Western Europe?

Frederico Molinari: I was few times in Romania already. I played at Sunwaves, the 12 hr Maraton @ Bacau and some other cities. For me in Eastern Europe, at the moment, the audience is more motivated. Maybe because the scene is much younger… that´s why i like very much to play in Eastern Europe.
