with a new album for 2020 two years in the making, The Allergies'
forthcoming LP 'Say the Word' showcases the feelgood funk and hip-hop
sound that crewmembers Moneyshot and Rackabeat have been perfecting for years.
Taking
the lead, ‘Felony’ is guilty of being a storming soul sensation,
charged with bittersweet emotion and driving, late-night grooves.
Holding the dancefloor bang to rights, it's the classic Allergies sound
all over, full of dusty sampled beats toughened with punchy drums and
re-worked lyrical loops.
On
the flip is ‘Rile ‘Em Up’, a Latin funk bomb that's no troublemaker,
but showcases something of a new chapter for The Allergies. As the new
album will testify, the duo have swelled their ranks to take in a full
touring band, bringing in regular mic accelerator Andy Cooper of Ugly
Duckling, soul diva Marietta Smith, and sax don Mr. Woodnote. An
infectious boogaloo full of party-starting hooks and breakdowns, 'Rile
'Em Up' will pull the pin and shake up your soda.
