Walking Rumor is an energetic nu-metal band from Odense, Denmark. The band got together in May 2015 and released its first single, Proud of me, in August 2015, followed by the first EP, The war within, in February 2016. This EP reached more than 30.000 streams on Spotify alone and Proud of me has been aired on multiple radio stations across Europe.

A popular Danish music initiative called KarriereKanonen (CareerCanon) recommended Proud of me as soon as it got released on their website. The single flew into NextUp ChartList Top 100 list of artist singles in the world and they gave us a nice review. The Danish website ‘TAK ROCK!’ (THANKS FOR ROCK) granted us the title Band of the month two months in a row (March and April 2016). which was because of our achievement as top band with our entire EP as Top Tracks on their website during the same period.

We started playing live shows in April 2016 at venues like Kansas City Odense, Studenterhuset and H.C. Ørsteds Kollegiet.
Our band won the Danish selection for ‘Global Battle of the Bands’ (GBOB) 2016 and we represented Denmark at the Global Battle of the Bands 2016 (GBOB) WORLD FINAL in Berlin, Germany on the 26th of May. We took home the 3rd place Peoples Choice Award.

RiCo for CZB: How did your band get together?
Andreas Løvenhorst (lead guitar, Blackie): Kenio and I knew each other from another band and then when that band broke up we decided to search for new members and eventually we found each and every one through groups on Facebook. It only took a few auditions and then walking rumor began as a band.
---
CZB: How did you choose your name; what does Walking Rumor mean to you?
Kenio Gustavsson (vocals/guitar):
"Coming up with a name for a band, is probably harder than writing a song" - Chester Bennington
-
We have to agree with him on this one.
We had a hard time coming up with a name for the band, because we wanted the name to have a story but also without meaning. It would be better for us to let the music define the name, than let the name define the music. Walking Rumor happened to be one of those things. There were many suggestions on the table when we first started out, some really cool ones and some very bad ones …haha.
The problem that we encountered every time was either that the name was already taken by someone else or that it just had too much meaning/definition to it.
Eventually the name Walking Rumor popped up and we all liked the quality the name had to offer.
Before this, me and Blackie were in aanother band and when we quit - to start something new, the rumor quickly spread around where we lived - and that’s where the inspiration for the name came from.

CZB: How many gigs have you had up to the GBOB World Final?
Blackie (Walking Rumor): We’d only just begun our very first mini tour when GBOB got added to the list. The show in Berlin was our 5th show.
---
CZB: Have you been to Berlin before and how was this trip to Berlin different from the first times?
Kenio (Walking Rumor): This was our first time to play outside of Denmark and the experience was amazing!
The fact that we got to play in another country is the goal and one step closer to “the dream".
---
CZB: Is there a story or a message you want to get through to the audience through your music?
Kenio (Walking Rumor): When we looked for a title for the EP, we sat down and talked ideas over and we all agreed that we wanted a title that in a short way explained what the music was telling us.
The EP eventually ended up getting called The war within and we could not have found a better title for it. Every song on the EP is pretty much about the struggles, the bottled up feelings and the things we never say out loud, that we keep inside for no one else to see or hear. It is that daily war we all have with ourselves whatever we face: a heartbreak, stress, depression, anxiety and so on.
One of the songs that sticks out from the rest is the track called Re-Call.
It’s the first song on the EP and that song tells a very personal story from our lead singer Crash (Anders Mørch). Some people out there have caught the lyrics right, some have made their own idea what the lyrics are about and WE LOVE THAT! When we write our lyrics, we always go for lyrics that can make people relate to them in their own way. We don’t want to cut it all out for anyone.
---
CZB: Do you have a Hit song?
Blackie (Walking Rumor): Our most successful song is called Proud of me which is a very personal song for us as a band since it was the first song we ever wrote, recorded and made a music video for. It has been a song we have worked a lot on and a song that has been so well accepted by people which we are really thankful for.

CZB: What's your opinion about the Music Industry in Denmark in 2016?
Kenio (Walking Rumor): Denmark isn’t that different from the rest of the world. We can all agree that pop music is the dominant genre these days, even though we have a few rock bands that struggle to keep the scales afloat.
Our personal opinion is that the record labels aren’t signing new artists and haven’t done this for a while.
---
CZB: Why did you sign up to GBOB and was this the first time you've participated at GBOB in your country?
Crash (Walking Rumor): We signed up for the GBOB contest because it was a big opportunity for us, to get our music outside of Denmark and be heard in other countries such as Germany. It was our first time participating at GBOB and we felt very honored having the chance to be a part of it all.
---
CZB: How is GBOB organized in your country? How did you feel when you found out YOU WON and would represent your country at the GBOB World Final in Berlin this year?
Crash (Walking Rumor): In our country (Denmark) there was neither a semifinal stage nor a national final. In Denmark they made an online voting system, where the band with the most votes got through to the finals and in the end we made it. Honestly we were all mesmerized by the fact that we made it through. We were all extremely thrilled and excited to go to Berlin with all the other finalists from all over the world. We felt so honored and wanted to do our absolute best to represent Denmark in the best way possible.
---
CZB: How was the GBOB World Final Experience for you?
Kenio (Walking Rumor): As mentioned earlier this was an amazing experience and we got one step closer to “the goal” as being an international band. We met with a lot of different artists from other regions of the world and we wouldn’t have been without their company. Getting introduced to so many different cultures, music genres and quality bands in one place was overwhelming. We can’t wait to go back someday.
---
CZB: What is your aim as a band / how far do you see yourselves going with the music?
Blackie (Walking Rumor): Setting a direct destination isn’t really our thing. We like to take it one step at a time, see where our music takes us. The support we’ve gotten from our fans so far have been amazing! – Thank you all.
We love to get out to the fans, playing live shows and have a blast with everyone who shares our passion.
---
CZB: What are your goals in the near future (tell me about your new EP, album, video, tour and give me details and weblinks if these are available, so people can access your music easily)?
Kenio (Walking Rumor): Our EP ‘The war within’ has been doing fantastic, it has reached further than we’ve ever could imagine from a first EP. The song called ‘Proud of me’ from the EP got selected as our first single. We chose to make a music video for it and it has been doing just as amazing. Overall we’ve been given such a warm welcome and we couldn’t be happier about that. Right now we’ve finished our two last planned shows for this year, so we can go home and write new stuff. We went back to Mørkværk Studios at the end of last summer to record some new material. We're planning new concerts this Spring and bookers are free to contact us …Haha.
