The new, acclaimed music documentary film about the late jazz great Thomas Chapin has just been selected by the Monterey Jazz Festival to screen on Sept. 18 at its Jazz Theater.
Says EMMY Award-winning film director Stephanie J. Castillo: "Thomas Chapin was on his way there with the trio, booked for the summer of 1997, but had to call it off when he got sick with leukemia. So he will now have his chance to "play"! ...Through the film! He’s come full circle!"
The film can be viewed in New York City at its premiere on Wednesday, April 27. The New York City International Film Festival will screen the 150 min. film on April 27 at 8:30 p.m. at the Dolby 88 Theater on 1350 Ave of the Americas—the film’s first U.S.film festival premiere. Tickets for the NYC screening on April 27 at 8:30 p.m. are $15 and can be ordered online at

It also has been nominated for a Best Story award at the Nice International Filmmakers Festival in World Cinema in France, screening in competition on May 9. Director Castillo will be there with her teammates and will attend the festival’s awards banquet on May 13 when prizes will be announced.
THOMAS CHAPIN NIGHT BIRD SONG will show also at the Yardbird Suite in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on April 30.
Reviews from jazz publications have been outstanding, says Castillo. "Inspiring"..."a masterpiece"..."a coup and tour de force"... "a must see.” Audiences are raving, she said.
