GARY LUCAS. An Evening with Gary Lucas: From Beefheart to Buckley and BeyondGARY LUCAS is busy finishing up several new albums in NYC, and recording new tracks for Italian vocalist Simone Moncada, US singer/songwriter Rich Krueger, and Mexican alternative band Rojo Marfil. His recent successful overseas solo tour covered 18 solo shows in the UK and Italy, including sold-out shows in Cumbria England and Le Marche Italy.

In the UK, Lucas' one-man multimedia show “An Evening with Gary Lucas: From Beefheart to Buckley and Beyond” received standing ovations  and took him to London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol and other cities.

The 90-minute show features music and stories from his collaborations with Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart) and Jeff Buckley,  rare video clips, and songs and instrumentals ranging over Gary’s 30-plus solo albums:

In Italy, Lucas performed with vocalist Alessio Franchini in Firenze and Bologna, and with singer Marco Caporicci in Roma.

He also performed with singer Emilio Sorridente and his band in Calabria at the historic Museo Del Rock Catanzaro, which boasts one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of rock memorabilia in the world.  This was Lucas’ first time performing in Calabria.

Next up July 14-18th Lucas performs at the Bolshoi Classical Music Festival, held annually on a mountain in Kustendorf Serbia, by invitation of famed film director Emir Kusturica--twice winner of the Palme d’ Or at Cannes, and leader of the No Smoking Orchestra. The Bolshoi Classical Music Festival centers around a competition among the cream of young classical music virtuosos from Serbia and Russia,

On Sun. July 15th at the Bolshoi Festival Lucas will premiere his original live solo soundtrack based on Russian classical music  accompanying the 1925 silent Soviet comedy “Chess Fever” directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin and Nikolai Shpikovsky. This is Lucas’ second time performing in Kustendorf this year, after playing the Kustendorf Film and Music Festival last January with his live solo film score accompanying Rene Clair’s 1924 surrealist classic “Entr’acte”,  and Vladimir Mayakovsky and Lilya Brik’s 1918 lost Futurist short “Bound By Film”:
