After the red-eyed delights of ‘Autumn Nights’ and ‘Wild Herb’, UK hip-hop’s keynote speaker brings cold, jagged edge flows that reiterate “if you didn’t know, Billy Brimstone’s the king”. Calling himself “Clark Kent when I step in the booth”, Jehst addresses his subjects to the glacial tip-toe of Pitch 92 sending strings swirling, pre-empting the moment of the hatchet coming into view from over the shoulder.

As critical as any 6 o’clock bulletin, ‘State of the Union’ is for when you can hear a pin drop, and when it’s being pulled out: “Apocalypse when? I’m letting off shots with the pen”.

Long “at the forefront of UK hip-hop” (The Guardian) and regarded as “the best British rapper of all time” (NME) and “the UK’s most natural rhymer who simply doesn’t waste words” (Clash), Jehst’s career has spanned the pre-millennium ‘Premonitions’, his enduring YNR imprint that has housed the homegrown sovereignty Kashmere, Cappo, Micall Parknsun and Verb T, and his last album, 2017’s ‘Billy Green is Dead’, described as a "a qualified triumph" by The Wire magazine. His rescheduled tour now heads across the country in October, taking in five dates across Plymouth, Bristol, Brighton, Milton Keynes and London.
