Vengaboys release acoustic versions of their hits

Vengaboys, the Netherlands' most successful pop act ever, have announced two brand new stripped back versions of their all-time biggest hits. The mini-EP - Unplugged #1’s, celebrates the first time both songs hit the top of international charts twenty years ago.

In 1999, when Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! and We're Going To Ibiza! came out, they instantly shot to number 1 positions worldwide. Besides going muti platinum, both songs became THE summer hits of the year. And now, twenty years on, these classics are still pulling in around 8 million streams a month on Spotify and Apple Music alone.

Recently, We're Going To Ibiza! hit the bigtime once again. The international press, including BBC, Al Jazeera, Reuters, RTL, The Sun, NOS, Bild and The Guardian, jumped on the phenomenal resurgence of the same song that hit number 1 in Austria as the protest song of choice in response to a breaking-news scandal that eventually brought the government down. The ultimate expression of #Ibizagate was the party-hearty foursome atop of their Vengabus at a recent rally held on the Ballhausplatz in Vienna. Images of the tens of thousands of Austrians singing along loudly took the Vengaboys worldwide once again.

The band, represented by blondina D-Nice, Captain Kim, Cowboy Donny, and Sailor Robin talk about the origin of the EP Unplugged #1’s:

D-Nice: “During a concert at the start of this year, the audience was so excited they kept shouting out for an encore. So our Sailor Robin suggested - on the spot - to do some acoustic versions of our old hits. It could have gone wrong, but instead, it turned into one big sing-along party!”

Captain Kim: “We thought it would be a fun idea to see if we could lay down some of those acoustic performances. With our Non-stop World Tour, we are on the road for about 300 days a year and we always have a lot of fun. But sometimes, we also have the time to wait and make way for opportunity. "

“We tried to record something on the plane, but there was too much background noise. Not only because of the plane, but also because some passengers started complaining. Just give me Venga Airways!” laughs Sailor Robin. “We have also done a number of sessions on the good old Vengabus. Actually, that always sounds great, as long as the bus is standing still."

The acoustic version of Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! was recently recorded in a dressing room in Sydney. And a room at the legendary Pikes Hotel was, of course, the ideal place to record the stripped down version of We’re Going To Ibiza!

These two recordings appear exactly 20 years after the summer of 1999 when they hit number 1 almost everywhere around the world.
