Finnish crooner Bobby Oroza releases his debut album ‘This Love’ on May 3rd on Brooklyn’s Big Crown Records (NYC label home to Lee Fields & The Expressions, The Shacks, El Michels Affair). Bobby pushes the borders of soul and rock balladry and creates a sound that's distinctly his own.
Since the track's original release ‘This Love’ has already became somewhat of an underground hit. The tune was sampled on Earl Sweatshirt’s song ‘Hat Trick’ and has become wildly popular in lowrider soul circles, moving over 3,000 copies of the 7” and counting. With its tough drums, maverick guitar work, in the cut bass, and Bobby’s calm yet pleading monotone vocals, ‘This Love’ is a must for soul collectors.
Bobby was born in Helsinki, Finland into a family of musicians and artists where he was exposed to a wide range of music early on. Frequent family parties were thrown to the sounds of his Bolivian grandfather playing Latin and Cuban classics on his guitar or to his parents record collection, which was full of early jazz and blues, Motown, gospel and doo-wop. The soul records were balanced out by Brazilian, African, North and South American folk songs and Nuyorican salsa albums, all of which influenced his music.
