Sequence (SRB) about the 2015 GBOB Romania National Final

Sequence signed up from the Serbian Banat to the last GBOB Romania Semifinal in 2015 and qualified through to the final through the two Wildcard slots offered to all participating bands whose shows impressed - but not enough to make it directly to the national final.

This is the interview we took with the band after they found out they made it to the second round of the competition.

The 2015 GBOB Romania National Final will take place on December 19th at the Aby Stage Bar in Râmnicu Vâlcea.

RiCo for GBOB Romania: What was your first experience with the GBOB Romania BANAT Semifinal like?

Sándor Dániel (guitar, Sequence): When I saw the club I was very excited. I saw awesome bands everywhere. The stage was amazing and there were great guys. Everybody helped me and because of that I was done with setting up my gear fast. 

I always watch the bands and the guitarists of course. I look at how they play, who is the better shredder. I decided that our gig in Timishoara had to be one of the best ever in our lives.

RiCo for CZB.ro: What do you think of the club and sound system at the GBOB Romania BANAT Semifinal?

Eszes Áron (guitar, Sequence): It was one of the best stages in our life. The sound system was really cool. We could hear everything up there. I feel uncomfortable on little stages most of the time because I move a lot so I need space. At Club Daos this was not a problem.

CZB: What did you think of the Jury at the GBOB Romania BANAT Semifinal?

Nagypál Nikk (drums, Sequence): We are really proud because we were judged by very good guys. After our show one of the jury members came to us asking for a photo. We were amazed. It just felt good someone respected us enough to take a picture together.

CZB: What do you want to get out of participating at GBOB Romania?

Sándor Dániel (guitar, Sequence): I think we just love to play in front of the audience but if we do play, then we want to be good at it. It's not enough to play. You can play a Mozart song without feelings and it will sound empty. 

We have to play with our heart and soul. I think this is the key to being a good musician (next to the lot of practicing). The best way to see you are going one step forward is by signing up for a contest like GBOB. We work a lot to be good musicians. 

GBOB can help us to be acknowledged.

CZB: How did you feel when you found out about the fire at the club in Bucharest that made our Prime minister leave office? How was the news story presented in Serbia?

Áron: We were really sad about it. We just can’t imagine the misery and pain they felt. I followed the Serbian and Hungarian news too. Everybody was devastated. I'm studying in Szeged where there is a Romanian Culture Center and we put candles in front of it. We can only hope that something like this won’t ever happen again. 

We wish the very best to the Romanian nation and we hope that the rock/metal scene will build up again after this tragedy.

CZB: What does it mean for you to be a singer/musician?

Bogár Ákos (singer, Sequence): I can only think of saying clichés… It means everything to me and my friends in the band. I think it is the only way you can be a musician. You have to put your heart and your soul into your music, like Daniel said. When I go up on stage I forget everything and there is just us and the audience. We have to build a connection between us. That is what really matters. That is what makes you a true musician.

CZB: What is the most important life experience you are getting out of being together with a band?
Áron: It’s all about the friendship to me. When you are together on the road, at rehearsals, on stage... There is a whole different connection between the members of a band than between usual friends. I think this is the most important thing in being in a band. You can experience good days and bad days too but at the end of the day there is just you and your friends.

CZB: How did you feel when you found out you would be a WILDCARD BAND and qualify to the next round in the GBOB Competition? 

Delić Larisa (Lara, bass, Sequence): When we found out that we are qualified to the finals we were very excited and proud. Our goal was not to win, but to have a good time and to share our music with the audience. We are happy to see that people appreciate what we do and that we are given an opportunity like this.

CZB: What thoughts do you have regarding the GBOB România National Final - what are you expecting to gain from this experience?

Lara: Like we said before, we are not seeing GBOB as a competition, we are seeing it as another opportunity to spread our music, to have fun and to show how we enjoy what we are doing. Winning this battle would be truly inspiring for us, but it is not crucial.
