We were friends and we all wanted to do something special for the world… and we see this possibility through music, so we started playing together. We rehearse in a village at the outskirts of the city, called Birdshouse.
We wrote our first song when we were only 14 or 15 years old, and we had to ask people to buy us beers and vodka, because we weren't old enough to buy those things. We drank that… and started screaming and shouting… and that was our first song.
Birds signed up for the Rock and Metal GBOB Banat Semifinal (October 29th, 2015 at Daos Club in Timishoara/Romania), so we decided it was time to get to know the Hungarian band a little better.
RiCo for GBOB.com: How did the band members get together?
Kelle András (singer, Birds): Jay and me went to the same school, so I know him since I was 8, and Benedek is Jay's cousin. Later, I met Ábel at high school when we were looking for a drummer to start our band: Birds.
RiCo for CZB.ro: What does Birds mean to you?
Kelle András (singer): Birds means Freedom for us, and the wings that we would like to give people who listen to our songs.
CZB: How many gigs have you had; what cities have you played in?
Kelle András (Birds): We haven't had too many gigs. Since I can still count them, I don't think it's enough... We would like to have many more gigs.
CZB: Tell me about something interesting that happened to you as a band on the road.
Kelle András (Birds): Once we played in a club and Benedek's amp exploded, and the electricity went out, then we continued playing the songs a cappella …so we just sang, and the crowd joined in.
It was unbelievable.
CZB: How do you write your music?
Kelle András (Birds): when we write songs, we always want to suggest something through the music - and the lyrics.
We only write songs when we have something to say to the World, even if it's bad, or critical.
CZB: What is the Hungarian music scene like in 2015?
Kelle András (Birds): In Hungary there are a lot of new bands and they aren't bad. Every band has its style and sound …so we are just one of them.
We are just some teenagers who have a goal with making music.
CZB: Is there anything that you think should be done better in Hungary to better promote young bands?
Kelle András (Birds): Of course. The media doesn't pay attention to rock music. I'm not talking about just the young bands, but the older, bigger bands too. I find it so depressing, that a young band has very few possibilities to become better known …but we're trying.
CZB: If you could have a superhuman power, what would this be?
Kelle András (Birds): If I could have a superhuman power, it would be teleportation.
CZB: What is your favorite book and your favorite movie?
Kelle András (Birds): My favorite book is The Clockwork Orange, and my favorite film is Fight Club.
CZB: What is your aim as a band?
Kelle András (Birds): Our aim is to become world famous as a Hungarian band.
CZB: Why did you sign up for GBOB România 2015?
Kelle András (Birds): Because G-BOB offers us the goals we want to reach.
